VeriSNP™ Universal Genetic Evaluation
Using our novel state of the art testing procedures, parentage, identity, genetic disease, and traits such as color can be definitively established using VeriSNP universal genetic evaluation.
All of this information can be determined using a single test without any extra charges added for parent verification.
Feline parentage verification is a useful service for breeders. It also protects cat registries by enabling them to maintain the integrity of the various breeds of cats. Buyers know that they are purchasing a quality animal with a certified bloodline.
Feline Disease Diagnostics are also part of the VeriSNP™ universal genetic evaluation. Some of the diseases on the VeriSNP™ system include mucopolysaccharidosis, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and polycystic kidney disease.
Traits on the VeriSNP™ system include point tests, brown, cinnamon, black, dilute, albinism and hair length. We are also proud to announce that B Blood Type as well as sex markers have been added to our array. New traits and diseases are being added to the test at regular intervals.
Cat owners can collect DNA samples themselves quickly and painlessly by taking buccal (cheek) swabs. Cats of any age and breed (even random-bred cats) can be tested.
Once your samples arrive at our laboratory, the DNA testing process begins. Each sample is labeled individually and given a unique DNA ID number.
Within approximately 4 weeks after the sample arrives at the lab, we will mail or email an officially certified VeriSNP™ DNA Testing Certificate showing all of the genetic information obtained from the testing. CatGenes will also include an easy to read guide to help you read test results.
Please Note:
Results are based on data obtained from analysis of unique DNA SNPs and other mutations in accordance with the standards and protocols set forth by DNA Diagnostics, Inc. dba Shelterwood Laboratories and Texas A&M University Animal Genetics Laboratory. The accuracy of parentage verification is based on the information and samples provided by the client. DNA Diagnostics, Inc. dba Shelterwood Laboratories and Texas A&M University Animal Genetics Laboratory does not assume responsibility for errors due to mislabeled or incorrectly sampled submissions.
If you have not received a test report from CatGenes within 4 weeks after the lab received your sample, please call 936.254.2228, or e-mail DNA Diagnostics, Inc.
DNA Parentage Testing will NOT provide information about the breed make-up of a cat at this time.
